Key Website Elements: A Checklist

There are a number of key elements that I must include in the website that will accompany my fashion magazine in order to conform to the expectations of the fashion genre and the audience.

Making this checklist of specific elements will make sure that I do not miss any important details that will contribute to the success of the website accompanying my fashion magazine.

  1. House Style: Similarly to my fashion magazine, a consistent colour scheme, fonts and overall look through each page of the accompanying website will satisfy the audience's expectations of familiarity and ensure that it is clear that the two products are part of the same brand.

  2. Language: Direct address continues to involve the audience and hyperbolic language emphasises the greatness of the brand.

  3. Images: Again, attractive stars/models feature, representing a social group and the content of the story they are part of (the wide range of topics featured means there will be numerous representations).

  4. Audiovisual Elements: Including only text and images on the website accompanying my fashion magazine would make it no different to the print product - thus, having audiovisual elements not only makes it more interesting, but highlights how it is a different product from the same brand.

  5. Mise en Scene: Stars/models are again the focus, being well dressed and having very natural or very stylised make up.

  6. Colour Scheme: The colours used on the website accompanying my fashion magazine serve the purpose of grabbing the audience's attention, and by not only being seasonal and relating to other aspects of the website but also matching those of the print product, it will be clear that they are convergent media products.

  7. Essential Information: Contact details, legal information and advertising facts, among other things, mean the audience is well informed regarding the production the website.

  8. Layout: With so many stories available, it is important that the audience has a sleek, well organised website to look around.

  9. Menu: In order for the audience to easily navigate the website accompanying my fashion magazine, a menu bar with links to ‘fashion’, ‘beauty and grooming’, ‘health’, ‘travel’ and ‘lifestyle’ pages is essential, in addition making the content of the website clear.

  10. Adverts: Advertisements for products which are relevant to the content of the magazine guide the audience to external websites that should interest them and help them to create looks similar to those shown.
