My fashion magazine will be called Unique.
This title is an essential part of my magazine's brand identity as it will be featured not only on the magazine itself, but also the accompanying website.
Consequently, it is imperative that the design of the masthead is right.
I spent time looking through numerous fonts to find the perfect one for the masthead of my fashion magazine...
The masthead of my fashion magazine will be in the font Prestige Signature Script. It is suitable for my target audience of a ‘culturally sophisticated, 16-25 class AB demographic’ as although it looks handwritten, there is a sophisticated edge to it due to the curves and thin style. In addition, it is different to most other mastheads of fashion magazines, so it should draw consumers in and be easily recognisable. It is also not overly masculine or feminine, so neither social group should be put off.
The other fonts I looked at include:
From the Dead
This font stood out because it is unique and could have real impact as the masthead of a fashion magazine. Despite the fact it's youthful and creative, it is almost too edgy when looked at in relation to the content and style of fashion magazine I will be creating.
Dustismo Roman
This is a stereotypical serif font that could be part of the masthead of any fashion magazine. Whilst it is stylish and sophisticated, it is too similar to the fonts of other fashion magazines to draw in an audience and provide character and a uniqueness to my fashion magazine.
Onderneming
This font is unlike a lot of the others I came across when researching for my masthead. Although it does make a statement, I think it could be seen in an education environment, and whilst this is relatable for my target audience, they should be escaping this when reading my fashion magazine.
Leculier
The modernity of this font is the most noticeable thing about it. It is sleek and unique, but the subtle way in which the 'uni' part of the word is focused on could alienate potential consumers - some may be at uni, but not all, and everyone should want to purchase my fashion magazine with the correct masthead.
Prosto Sans
This font is very basic. It is bold and would be noticeable, however it is plain and an obvious sans serif font choice - it appears to be quite harsh.
