Magazine
Published by Bauer Media, my magazine has the aim of appealing to a ‘culturally sophisticated, 16-25 class AB demographic’.
The publishing company focuses on ‘deep consumer insight and instinct’, connecting members of society by providing media products that centre on their interests. In the case of my magazine, the passion is fashion, and the members of society being brought together are males and females.
Inclusion of both males and females in not only the target audience, but also the magazine itself is something that is not frequently done. Both social groups will be represented in the covers and contents pages of the first two editions, with a female being the cover star of the first edition, and a male being that of the second.
The images will consistently be the focal point, as is often the case with fashion magazines, as a way of drawing in consumers and highlighting what the magazine is best at – cultured but affordable fashion.
Together with the images of stylish but relatable models will be features on beauty/grooming, health, travel and lifestyle, presented through cover lines on the covers and features on the contents pages.
Website
The subjects covered in my magazine will also feature on my website, with a menu bar at the top providing links to ‘fashion’, ‘beauty and grooming’, ‘health’, ‘travel’ and ‘lifestyle’ pages.
In addition, access to my magazine’s social media pages will be available to offer my audience the opportunity to connect with not only the creators of their new favourite magazine, but also their fellow readers. It also lets them give feedback, meaning that my magazine, and website, can evolve with my audience’s needs and wants.
The chance to ‘subscribe’ will also be presented so that Bauer Media benefits economically and my magazine can truly become ‘the lens through which our audiences see the world’.
All of the content on the website accompanying my magazine should be updateable as whilst my magazine is quarterly, my website will be constant. This allows for more representations because my audience will be kept abreast of social and cultural happenings which will involve numerous social groups.
A monochromatic colour scheme will allow the visual elements to seize and sustain the audience’s attention, with the seasonal colours in the features matching my magazine standing out.
Convergence
Every choice and aspect of media language used will contribute to the overall brand identity of my magazine and website. Brand identity is key.
It must be demonstrated that my magazine and website are for the same product and have the same target audience of a ‘culturally sophisticated, 16-25 class AB demographic’.
A simple way to do this is through the consistent use of the same fonts and logo. Also, the subjects of the images in my magazine will be on the accompanying website.
My audience will also be directed to exclusive website content from my magazine. Synergy should be created as my magazine will be referenced in either the text or audio-visual element.
